A placement fee is a charge paid by a business or venue to an artist or their representative in exchange for the right to display an artwork for a specified period. Placement fees are distinct from purchase prices: the artwork is displayed but remains the property of the artist, who retains the right to sell or recall it. Some placement arrangements are fee-free, with the business instead receiving an agreed share if the work sells during the display period. Herehood does not charge artists to list or display — any placement terms are agreed directly between artist and business.
